It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's super zip!

Our first ever adventure into zip lining happened when we were in San
Diego, California in 2014. FOX set up a zip line outside the Comic Con
convention center to promote their new series, Gotham. The back drop was
set up to look as if you were Batman soaring through Gotham City.
We just had to try it! So we hopped in line where we stood for over an hour through sunshine and a sudden down pour that lasted just long enough to drench us thoroughly. Finally we made it to the top, strapped in, struck our pose and soared down the zip line resembling absolutely nothing to do with Batman or Batgirl unless we were auditioning for Batman on Broadway.
Needless to say, we will not be getting a
call back to play anyone’s stunt double unless Gotham becomes a musical
number. That’s okay, we had the time of our lives and decided that the
moment we got back to the east coast we would go in search of more zips.
It wasn’t long before we came across the
Canyons Zip Line and Canopy Tours in Ocala, Florida. They offered a
1,600′ zip that allowed you to fly like Superman! We immediately booked
our reservation and headed over.
We strapped into our harnesses and took a nice little ride to the tower. The scenery is absolutely beautiful.
We had no idea there were lakes surrounded by canyons in the middle of Florida. Next we had to carry our equipment while penguin walking up the tower. The harness doesn’t allow your legs to bend so it’s quite an awkward and long trek up those stairs. We reached the top and we were already winded.
Once you catch your breath prepare to lose
it again when the guide has you stand on a ladder while attaching you to
the line, eases you forward and dangles you head first off the edge!
What a view. I filmed using my digital camera. I’m afraid this was
before we invested in a gopro so the quality isn’t the best but you get
the general idea. Watch out for that insanely fun abrupt stop at the
end. We nearly lost a lung. It was amazing!
This was the spectator’s view of us as we
soared by. Those tiny dots under the red arrows are us. You can almost
see us if you click on the pics and squint really hard.
The Canyons offer several different zip tours, a night tour and a horseback riding tour through the beautiful terrain.
We absolutely LOVED this adventure!
