After an exhausting flight across the US, we still managed to wake up bright and early, just in time to catch this gorgeous sunrise from our balcony at David Walley's Hot Springs Resort. Being from Florida, the 40 degree temperature here is heaven!
We headed down to the little cafe beside the hot springs and had a delicious breakfast. After we stuffed ourselves, we decided to take a stroll around the resort and snap some pictures. The whole place was breath taking.
In the morning you can watch rabbits eating in the grass and geese fly by. It's very relaxing and tranquil. We were surprised at how quiet it was. Even driving the roads, there was very little traffic. It was bliss.
We spent the day casually driving around Genoa, enjoying the sights and visiting some antique stores. Nothing too hectic. There are quite a few antique stores in this little town. Everything is so quaint.
As we were driving through Genoa we passed the Hanging Tree. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a good picture of the tree and plaque. The plaque tells of a man named Adam Uber who was forcefully taken from his jail cell by an angry mob and hung from that tree for the pistol killing of Hans Anderson in a bar room brawl in 1897.
I couldn't help but think of the hanging tree song from Mockingjay
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight in the hanging tree
This is the statue of Snowshoe Thompson, who delivered mail for 20 years, and was considered the father of California skiing. His grave site is in the Genoa graveyard, not far from here.

We had to stop by Nevada's oldest thirst parlor so that I could walk where John Wayne, Mark Twain, Theodore Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant, Clint Eastwood, Clark Gable and many many others have all walked. A place so many legends have stopped for drinks.
Everything about this town is so rich in history and fascinating. We are in love with this beautiful place!
Our trip was paid for by us. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
